GET TO KNOW ME

Dr Katriona Taylor - HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist

My Ethos:

I seek to offer you a safe, confidential space where you can share your story.   Whilst I have worked with a number of difficulties, these tend to have a common, but individually unique grounding - how we as humans have learnt to survive and cope in difficult circumstances, and  together in therapy we can start to make sense of how your experiences and relationships have shaped you in order to develop a road map for repairing relationships, overcoming difficulties, being kinder to yourself and developing new ways of coping in order to live a better and more fulfilling life.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I am passionate about helping individuals and families overcome challenges and find greater peace and fulfilment in their lives. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey and I am here to provide a safe and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences. My approach to therapy is rooted in evidence-based techniques, however I also believe in the importance of acknowledging each individual's unique human experience using the process of formulation to inform individualised treatment plans. Whether you're dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma or other mental health concerns, I am here to come alongside and support you on your journey to greater mental wellbeing.

My Experience:

I am a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist with 14 years of experience working in mental health within the NHS. I have worked in a broad range of settings with people of all ages and with a variety of difficulties. Since being qualified as a Clinical Psychologist I have worked within Looked after Children's services, inpatient adult and child services, and I currently work as a Principal Clinical Psychologist in community CAMHS. Within these roles, I have worked with a multitude of different and complex presentations which include attachment difficulties, trauma, anxiety and low mood, self-harm and eating disorders and I have supervised a number of clinicians from a variety of professional backgrounds.

In addition my clinical roles, I also work as a Clinical Tutor on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Sheffield, where I am also involved in teaching, and currently lead on our supervision training programmes for placement supervisors.

As a clinical psychologist, I use an integrated and person centred approach drawing from a range of evidence-based modalities that prioritise the therapeutic relationship including narrative therapy, attachment-based therapy and compassion focused therapy. I believe these approaches offer clients a toolbox for learning new coping strategies, resilience and finding new ways to understand themselves and their experiences.

In addition to being a clinical psychologist, I am also a systemic practitioner trained to intermediate level. Since qualifying I have also had further training in sensory integration in attachment, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Positive Behaviour Support, AMBIT, Family Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa and compassion focussed staff support, and I am currently working towards my BABCP accreditation in CBT.

In addition to offering therapy, I also provide supervision, consultation and training to other professionals.
